Personal Information
I am native of Peru - Lambayeque. From 1985 until 1989, I studied at “Glorioso Colegio Nacional San Jose” (Chiclayo). In 1990 I moved to Lima, where I finished my undergraduate studies in Statistics and Computer Science (end of 1999) at the Universidad Nacional Agraria- La Molina.
I lived in Brazil from January 2000 until July 2017. In this period, I finished my PhD in Statistics at the Universidade de Sao Paulo (2004) and I was a professor of Statistics at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) for 12 years. Recently (August 2017), I have accepted the position of full professor (tenured) at UConn- Department of Statistics. Here is my CV .
Award with Students
1.- My PhD Student Fernanda Schumacher, received Student competition award of statistics in association with the Conference in Honour of Fred Smith and Chris Skinner". Southhampton, UK, June-2021.
2.- My Master Student Katherine Andreina Loor Valeriano received a Honorary Mention for the best Master Thesis defended in the period 2018-2020. SINAPE AWARD. Brazil, August-2021.
3.- My PhD student Alejandro Ordoñez, received the "Best EBEB -2020 Poster Award" in the 15th Brazilian Meeting of Bayesian Statistics. São Paulo, Brazil, March-2020.
4.- My PhD student Christian Eduardo Galarza, a visiting scholar in our department, received the "Best LACSC -2019 Paper Award" in the 4th Latin American Conference for Statistical Computing. Guayaquil-Equador, May-2019.
5.- My master Student Fernanda Schumacher, received an Award for the Best Master Thesis defended in the period 2016-2017. SINAPE, São Paulo, Brazil, July-2018.
